Skills Mismatch: SIFA Commits Once Again to Bridging the Gap

SIFA Technology returns with the second edition of the training event “Convention&Contest” brought to the students of the “Vito Volterra” Scientific High School in Sassoferrato to transform knowledge into skills, enhance the territory and the skills of each student

The “Convention&Contest” project, born last year by the will of the SIFA Technology company on the occasion of the presentation of the donation of the PCs destined for the language laboratory of the Volterra High School in Sassoferrato, has the objective of transforming knowledge into skills by spreading greater awareness of the real applications of the topics studied in the school training path, as well as enhancing the territory by making known the real training opportunities and the characteristics of the companies in the district and, last but not least, to make people reflect on their own aptitudes and power skills through knowledge of the company system, therefore touching, in addition to scientific topics, many others related to Orientation and Active Citizenship.

The contest, which was re-proposed, certainly played its part in making the morning more lively, a modality that allowed the students to “challenge” each other on various topics and to be able to win this year’s prize, which consists of participating in a mini-course organized by SIFA Technology in their work spaces. Also this year, languages and business are central, in fact this year’s theme will focus on “Global Trade & negotiation with a special focus on the Hispanic market” starting at the end of May, held by the corporate linguistic expert, Dr. Veronica Busso.

Given the importance of the topics and the need to work on the complementarity of the more scholastic and the more experiential learning typical of the corporate environment, the city high school decided to reserve an entire morning last April for a second edition of the event signed by SIFA Technology, thus demonstrating innovation, foresight and adeep understanding of the current training needs of students. In fact, for a training that can respond to the needs of the market effectively, it is increasingly important to develop innovative projects between the different entities capable of training young people, including companies. Therefore, I applaud the schools that are able to seize the opportunities made available by companies that are committed to the social and cultural, as well as economic, enrichment of their territory.

Through short explanations, experiments, exercises, games, simulations and role-plays, scientific disciplines such as Fluid Dynamics (central theme), Mechanics, Inorganic Chemistry, Aerodynamics were explored; then Platonic Relativism acted as a trait d’union with other themes more inherent to the socio-economic and Active Citizenship field such as “The eight key skills for Lifelong Learning” promoted by the EU and the possible post-diploma training courses present in the area.

Finally, during the last part of the morning, the attention of the students – extremely interested, prepared and involved from the very beginning – was directed towards the knowledge of the main characteristics of SMEs, towards the functional areas of companies and therefore to the various aptitudes that are valued in company departments. Information that was anything but theoretical, considering that pills were also shared on how to respond to an email at a professional level, how to start a business and other practical tools that can be used in any professional career. This is how the simulation of a business interview or the role play aimed at selling a product and many other “Games” enlivened the morning, realizing the noble intent of combining fun and learning for personal growth based on a greater awareness of our world and the pleasure that comes from Knowledge.
